Edit a file

Project Lima

This section explains how to edit a file.

If you would like to see a brief overview of the Read Only, Edit and File Checkout functions, please click here.

Level = Intermediate

Time required = 5 Minutes

Why use the edit feature?

Lima supports a number of methods (Read Only, Edit, and Check Out) when opening files.

The edit feature is used when a user wishes to make a limited number of changes to a small file. The edit feature allows the document to remain live in Lima while it is being changed. Edit is not suitable for large files or when a document needs to be kept open for a prolonged period of time. In those instances a user should use the file check out option.

To open a file in edit mode right click on the file and select "Open (Edit Mode)" from the menu.

Lima then uses your file associations to open the relevant piece of local software and display the file.

In the example above, "120223KB Project Alpha Meeting Notes.doc" is edited in Microsoft Word.

While the file is in edit mode, a blue tick is used in the Lima interface to signify that a file is being modified and therefore cannot be used by another user.

If you encounter another file with a blue tick (indicating that another user has a file open). You can use the column manager to display when the file was used and who by.

Once you have finished modifying the file simply close the document to automatically save your changes into Lima.
